Design Project Intern: Olive Grove Community Garden
We are looking for designers with experience in landscape architecture or architecture to assist in developing the Olive Grove Community Garden next to Moria Camp. This program, of site improvements are part of an on-going community based development project that began in November 2016.
Over the past couple of months we have installed a series of landscaped terraces using traditional dry stone wall building methods and plan to continue developing the identity of this vital social space through improved seating installations and planting of the main garden area, which is due to begin in September. We are also exploring plans to develop a neighbouring community space utilised by other NGOs for psycho-social support and education services.
As an Olive Grove Project Intern you will gain experience in community based design and skills-sharing processes and site management. You will also have opportunity to develop your skills in research, program development and delivery, monitoring and evaluation, and mentorship. You may also be required to support other office projects and initiatives and will gain a deep understanding of the context in which ODD operates. You will work independently and as part of a team.
The minimum commitment is 6 weeks with an average of 30- 40 hours per week depending on office needs.
Candidates with backgrounds in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: landscape architecture, architecture, construction.
Completed 2 years university level coursework or similar OR have equivalent work experience
You must be a confident English speaker
Basic understanding of common manual and power tools is advantageous
You will need to have an empathetic outlook and you must be reliable
Lesvos based individuals and those with Greek fluency are highly encouraged to apply.
