She Repairs
A home repairs training program supporting women in Izmir, Turkey to reclaim their homes and lives after displacement.
Amidst the uncertainties of displacement, the women of Izmir, Turkey navigate financial, legal and social barriers to create a sense of home away from home. The ‘She Repairs’ project aims to support these women, focusing on female-headed households, through a home repairs course.
This initiative is designed as a stepping stone. Starting with basic home repairs, these women can strengthen their self-reliance and start reclaiming control of their own living spaces. The workshop also acts as a platform for skill-sharing, building long lasting community networks and fostering a legacy of a women-only task force carrying out repairs for their underserved community.
After an enthusiastic response from interviewees in Basmane neighbourhood, an underserved area characterised by a precarious building stock, we are thrilled to announce that ‘She Repairs’ will convene this coming winter. To bring this pilot initiative to life, we are raising €5000.
